The Cleveland County Health Department will employ a Public Health Nurse I as the Child Care Health Consultant (CCHC) for Cleveland County.  The CCHC will provide educational information to the licensed and regulated child care centers and family care homes in the county regarding health, safety, and nutrition issues.  The CCHC will provide two community-wide workshops and on-site technical assistance to a minimum of ten targeted child care providers.  Training will be provided on an array of topics including but not limited to diaper changing, sanitation, hand washing, food preparation, medication administration, emergency preparedness, preschool communicable diseases, chronic disease management and transportation safety.  Additional topics may be developed at the request of providers. Intensive on-site technical assistance will be provided to a minimum of ten targeted child care providers.  Items related to training topics and technical assistance may be provided to participants upon completion of training sessions. The CCHC will assist providers in developing and implementing effective health and safety policies, conduct comprehensive record reviews (emergency contacts, physicals, medical homes, insurance coverage, immunizations, etc.), and align training with improvement in licensing status. Services will be delivered on site at centers and homes and community sites in Cleveland County.  This activity will also support a portion of a staff member’s time who will assist the child care health consultant.
